Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 18, Página 8
At
school,
the
kids
admired
Tom
and
Joe
so
much
that
the
two
heroes
became
very
proud.
They
started
telling
their
adventures
to
eager
listeners—but
they
only
started;
with
their
imaginations,
it
wouldn't
end
soon.
Finally,
when
they
took
out
their
pipes
and
puffed
around,
they
reached
the
top
of
glory.
Tom
thought
he
didn't
need
Becky
Thatcher
anymore.
Glory
was
enough
for
him.
He
wanted
to
live
for
glory.
Now
that
he
was
special,
maybe
she
would
want
to
be
friends
again.
Let
her
try—he
would
show
he
could
be
as
uncaring
as
others.
Soon
she
arrived.
Tom
acted
like
he
didn't
see
her.
He
moved
away
and
joined
a
group
of
kids
and
started
talking.
He
noticed
Becky
was
running
around,
laughing
and
playing,
but
she
always
stayed
near
him.
She
looked
at
him
sometimes,
too.
This
made
Tom
feel
proud,
so
he
tried
even
harder
to
ignore
her.
Becky
stopped
playing
and
walked
around,
sighing
and
looking
at
Tom.
Then
she
saw
Tom
talking
more
to
Amy
Lawrence
than
anyone
else.
This
made
Becky
feel
jealous
and
upset.
She
tried
to
leave,
but
walked
to
the
group
instead.
She
said
to
a
girl
near
Tom:
"Why,
Mary
Austin!
You
bad
girl,
why
didn't
you
come
to
Sunday
school?"
"I
did
come—didn't
you
see
me?"
"Why,
no!
Did
you?
Where
did
you
sit?"
"I
was
in
Miss
Peters'
class,
where
I
always
go.
I
saw
you."
"Did
you?
It's
funny
I
didn't
see
you.
I
wanted
to
tell
you
about
the
picnic."
"Oh,
that's
great.
Who's
going
to
have
it?"
