Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 23, Página 6
Potter’s
lawyer
didn’t
question
him.
The
audience
looked
annoyed.
Did
the
lawyer
want
to
give
up
without
trying?
Many
witnesses
talked
about
Potter’s
guilty
actions
at
the
murder
scene.
They
left
without
being
questioned.
Every
detail
about
that
morning
in
the
graveyard
was
told
by
honest
witnesses,
but
Potter’s
lawyer
didn’t
question
any
of
them.
The
people
in
the
courtroom
were
confused
and
unhappy.
They
murmured,
and
the
judge
told
them
to
be
quiet.
The
prosecution
lawyer
then
said:
"We
have
proof
from
honest
people.
This
crime
is
the
prisoner's.
We
end
our
case
here."
Poor
Potter
groaned
and
put
his
face
in
his
hands.
He
rocked
back
and
forth.
The
courtroom
was
very
quiet.
Many
men
felt
sad,
and
many
women
cried.
The
defense
lawyer
stood
up
and
said:
"Your
honor,
we
planned
to
say
our
client
did
this
because
he
was
drunk.
We
changed
our
mind.
We
will
not
say
that."
[Then
to
the
clerk:]
"Call
Thomas
Sawyer!"
Everyone
in
the
room
looked
surprised,
even
Potter.
All
eyes
were
on
Tom
as
he
stood
up
and
went
to
the
stand.
The
boy
looked
scared.
He
took
the
oath.
"Thomas
Sawyer,
where
were
you
on
June
seventeenth,
around
midnight?"
