Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 33, Página 1
In
a
few
minutes,
the
news
spread.
Many
men
were
going
to
McDougal’s
cave.
The
ferryboat
came
with
lots
of
people.
Tom
Sawyer
was
in
the
skiff
with
Judge
Thatcher.
When
they
opened
the
cave
door,
they
saw
a
sad
sight.
Injun
Joe
was
on
the
ground,
dead.
His
face
was
near
the
door
crack,
like
he
wanted
to
see
the
light
outside.
Tom
felt
sad
because
he
knew
how
much
Injun
Joe
had
suffered.
But
Tom
also
felt
safe
now.
He
realized
how
scared
he
had
been
since
he
spoke
against
Injun
Joe.
Injun
Joe’s
knife
was
broken
in
two
nearby.
He
tried
to
cut
the
door
beam
but
could
not
get
out.
The
rock
outside
stopped
him.
He
knew
he
could
not
fit
under
the
door
even
if
he
cut
the
beam.
He
did
it
to
pass
the
time.
Usually,
tourists
left
candles
in
the
cave,
but
there
were
none
now.
Injun
Joe
ate
them.
He
also
caught
bats
and
ate
them,
leaving
only
claws.
He
starved
to
death.
Near
him,
a
stalagmite
had
grown
from
water
drops.
He
broke
it
and
used
the
stone
to
catch
water,
a
drop
every
three
minutes.
This
drop
had
been
falling
since
ancient
times.”
The
drop
still
falls
today.
It
will
keep
falling
when
everything
else
is
forgotten.
Does
everything
have
a
purpose?
Did
this
drop
fall
for
thousands
of
years
just
for
Injun
Joe?
Tourists
now
look
at
the
stone
and
water
drop
as
the
cave's
main
wonder.
It
is
even
more
famous
than
“Aladdin’s
Palace.”
Injun
Joe
was
buried
near
the
cave.
People
came
from
towns
and
farms,
bringing
children
and
food.
They
said
the
funeral
was
as
good
as
a
hanging.
The
funeral
stopped
the
petition
for
Injun
Joe’s
pardon.
Many
people
had
signed
it.
Some
women
wanted
the
governor
to
forgive
him.
Injun
Joe
was
thought
to
have
killed
five
people,
but
some
still
wanted
to
pardon
him.
The
morning
after
the
funeral,
Tom
took
Huck
to
talk
privately.
Huck
knew
about
Tom’s
adventure
from
the
Welshman
and
Widow
Douglas.
But
Tom
said
there
was
something
they
didn’t
tell
Huck.
Huck
looked
sad
and
said:
“I
know.
You
got
into
No.
2
and
only
found
whiskey.
No
one
told
me
it
was
you,
but
I
guessed
it.
I
knew
you
didn’t
get
the
money
because
you
would
have
told
me.
Tom,
I
felt
we’d
never
find
that
treasure.”
