Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 35, Página 1
People
in
the
village
talked
a
lot
about
Tom
and
Huck's
money.
It
was
a
big
amount,
and
everyone
was
excited.
Men
searched
old
houses
for
more
treasure.
Wherever
Tom
and
Huck
went,
people
admired
them.
They
listened
to
everything
the
boys
said.
The
village
paper
even
wrote
about
their
lives.
The
Widow
Douglas
saved
Huck's
money,
and
Judge
Thatcher
did
the
same
for
Tom's
money.
Now,
each
boy
had
a
lot
of
money.
They
got
a
dollar
for
every
weekday
and
some
Sundays.
This
was
as
much
as
the
minister
was
supposed
to
get.
In
those
days,
a
dollar
and
a
quarter
could
pay
for
a
boy's
food,
clothes,
and
school.
Judge
Thatcher
thought
Tom
was
special.
He
said
no
normal
boy
could
have
helped
his
daughter
out
of
the
cave.
Becky
told
her
father
how
Tom
took
her
punishment
at
school.
The
Judge
was
impressed
and
said
Tom's
lie
to
protect
her
was
noble.
Becky
thought
her
father
looked
very
proud
when
he
said
that.
She
told
Tom
everything.
Judge
Thatcher
hoped
Tom
would
become
a
great
lawyer
or
soldier.
He
planned
to
help
Tom
go
to
a
military
academy
and
a
good
law
school.
Huck's
money
and
living
with
the
Widow
Douglas
pushed
him
into
society.
He
was
not
happy.
The
widow's
servants
kept
him
clean
and
neat.
He
had
to
eat
with
a
knife
and
fork
and
go
to
church.
He
had
to
speak
properly,
and
he
felt
trapped
by
all
the
rules.
Huck
tried
to
live
this
new
life
for
three
weeks.
Then
he
disappeared.
The
widow
looked
everywhere
for
him,
worried.
The
whole
town
searched
for
him.
On
the
third
morning,
Tom
found
Huck
hiding
in
an
old
barrel.
Huck
had
been
eating
stolen
food
and
was
happy
in
his
old
clothes.
Tom
told
him
about
the
trouble
he
caused
and
asked
him
to
come
back.
Huck
looked
sad
and
said:
"Don't
talk
about
it,
Tom.
I
tried,
but
it
doesn't
work.
I'm
not
used
to
it.
The
widow
is
nice,
but
I
can't
live
like
that.
She
makes
me
wake
up
early
and
wash.
I
have
to
wear
clothes
that
feel
tight.
I
can't
even
slide
on
a
cellar
door.
I
have
to
go
to
church
and
sit
still.
I
can't
catch
flies
or
chew.
Everything
is
too
regular."
"Well,
everybody
lives
like
that,
Huck."
