Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 5, Página 2
Dresses
rustled
as
the
congregation
sat
down.
The
boy
in
this
story
didn’t
enjoy
the
prayer;
he
just
waited
through
it.
He
wasn’t
really
listening
but
knew
the
usual
parts
of
the
prayer.
When
something
new
was
added,
he
noticed
and
didn’t
like
it.
During
the
prayer,
a
fly
landed
on
the
pew
in
front
of
him.
It
rubbed
its
hands
and
cleaned
its
head.
It
was
safe
because
Tom
believed
he
couldn’t
catch
it
during
the
prayer.
But
as
soon
as
"Amen"
was
said,
he
caught
the
fly.
His
aunt
saw
and
made
him
let
it
go.
The
minister
started
his
sermon.
It
was
dull,
and
many
people
began
to
nod
off.
Still,
the
sermon
was
about
fire
and
punishment,
and
only
a
few
would
be
saved.
Tom
counted
the
pages
of
the
sermon.
After
church,
he
knew
the
number
of
pages
but
not
much
else.
This
time,
he
was
interested
for
a
while.
The
minister
talked
about
the
future
when
the
lion
and
lamb
would
be
together,
and
a
child
would
lead
them.
Tom
didn’t
care
about
the
lesson,
just
the
idea
of
being
that
child.
He
thought
it
would
be
fun
if
the
lion
was
tame.
Now
Tom
felt
bored
again
as
the
dry
talk
started.
He
remembered
a
treasure
he
had
and
took
it
out.
It
was
a
big
black
beetle
with
strong
jaws.
He
called
it
a
"pinchbug."
It
was
in
a
small
box.
The
beetle
bit
his
finger
first.
Tom
flicked
it,
and
the
beetle
flew
into
the
aisle
and
landed
on
its
back.
Tom
put
his
hurt
finger
in
his
mouth.
The
beetle
moved
its
legs
but
couldn't
turn
over.
Tom
watched
it
and
wanted
it
back,
but
it
was
too
far.
Other
people
who
didn't
care
about
the
sermon
looked
at
the
beetle
too.
Soon
a
stray
poodle
dog
came
by.
He
felt
sad
and
tired
from
the
warm
day.
He
saw
the
beetle,
and
his
tail
wagged.
He
walked
around
it
and
sniffed
from
a
safe
distance.
He
got
braver
and
took
a
closer
sniff.
Then
he
tried
to
bite
it
gently
but
missed.
He
tried
again
and
again,
having
fun.
He
lay
down
with
the
beetle
between
his
paws,
but
soon
got
bored
and
sleepy.
His
head
drooped,
and
his
chin
touched
the
beetle,
which
bit
him.
The
dog
yelped
loudly,
shook
his
head,
and
the
beetle
flew
away,
landing
on
its
back
again.
People
nearby
smiled
quietly,
some
hid
their
faces
with
fans.
Tom
felt
very
happy.
The
dog
looked
silly
and
maybe
felt
that
way
too,
but
he
wanted
revenge.
So
he
went
back
to
the
beetle
and
tried
to
attack
it
again,
jumping
around
it
and
snapping
at
it.
But
he
got
tired
again.
He
tried
to
play
with
a
fly,
but
it
didn't
help.
He
followed
an
ant
but
got
bored.
He
yawned,
sighed,
forgot
the
beetle,
and
sat
on
it.
Then
he
yelped
in
pain
and
ran
up
the
aisle,
still
yelping.
He
ran
across
the
front
of
the
church,
down
the
other
aisle,
and
in
front
of
the
doors.
He
ran
back,
looking
like
a
furry
comet.
Finally,
he
jumped
into
his
owner's
lap,
who
threw
him
out
the
window.
The
dog's
cries
faded
away
in
the
distance.
By
now,
everyone
in
the
church
was
red-faced
and
trying
not
to
laugh.
The
sermon
stopped.
When
it
started
again,
it
was
slow
and
awkward.
Nobody
could
take
it
seriously
because
people
kept
laughing
quietly.
It
was
a
relief
for
everyone
when
the
service
ended
and
the
blessing
was
given.
Tom
Sawyer
went
home
feeling
happy.
He
thought
church
was
more
fun
with
some
excitement.
He
had
one
bad
thought,
though.
He
didn't
mind
the
dog
playing
with
his
pinchbug,
but
he
didn't
like
that
it
took
it
away.
