Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 11, Página 2
People
in
the
trees
above
Tom
said
Potter
wasn’t
trying
to
run
away;
he
just
looked
confused
and
unsure.
“What
nerve!”
said
someone
nearby.
“He
wanted
to
come
and
look
at
his
work
quietly,
I
guess—didn’t
expect
anyone
here.”
The
crowd
parted,
and
the
Sheriff
came
through,
leading
Potter
by
the
arm.
Potter
looked
exhausted,
and
fear
was
clear
in
his
eyes.
When
he
stood
before
the
dead
man,
he
shook
and
hid
his
face
in
his
hands,
crying.
“I
didn’t
do
it,
friends,”
he
cried.
“I
swear
I
didn’t
do
it.”
“Who
accused
you?”
shouted
a
voice.
This
question
hit
hard.
Potter
lifted
his
face,
looking
around
hopelessly.
He
saw
Injun
Joe
and
said:
“Oh,
Injun
Joe,
you
promised
you’d
never—”
“Is
this
your
knife?”
the
Sheriff
asked,
holding
it
up
to
him.
