Muff
Potter
when
it
happened.”
Tom’s
terrible
secret
and
guilty
conscience
kept
him
up
for
a
week.
One
morning
at
breakfast,
Sid
said:
“Tom,
you
toss
and
talk
in
your
sleep
so
much
that
I
can’t
sleep.”
Tom
turned
pale
and
looked
down.
“That’s
a
bad
sign,”
said
Aunt
Polly
seriously.
“What’s
on
your
mind,
Tom?”
“Nothing.
Nothing
I
know
of.”
But
his
hand
shook
so
much
that
he
spilled
his
coffee.
“And
you
say
strange
things,”
Sid
continued.
“Last
night
you
said,
‘It’s
blood,
it’s
blood,
that’s
what
it
is!’
You
kept
saying
it.
And
you
said,
‘Don’t
torment
me—I’ll
tell!’
Tell
what?
What
will
you
tell?”
Everything
was
spinning
for
Tom.
Who
knows
what
might
have
happened
next,
but
luckily
Aunt
Polly’s
concern
faded,
and
she
unknowingly
helped
him
out.
