Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 26, Página 11
"Of
course!
Should
have
thought
of
that
earlier.
You
mean
Number
One?"
"No—Number
Two—under
the
cross.
The
other
place
is
bad—too
common."
"All
right.
It's
almost
dark
enough
to
start."
Injun
Joe
got
up
and
went
from
window
to
window,
carefully
peeking
out.
Soon
he
said:
"Who
could
have
brought
those
tools
here?
Do
you
think
they
might
be
upstairs?"
The
boys
held
their
breath.
Injun
Joe
put
his
hand
on
his
knife,
paused
for
a
moment,
unsure,
then
turned
toward
the
stairs.
The
boys
thought
of
the
closet,
but
they
were
too
weak.
The
steps
creaked
as
he
climbed—the
unbearable
tension
woke
the
boys’
courage—they
were
about
to
run
for
the
closet
when
there
was
a
crash
of
rotten
wood
and
Injun
Joe
fell
to
the
ground
with
the
broken
stairway.
He
got
up
cursing,
and
his
partner
said:
"Why
bother
with
all
that?
If
someone
is
up
there,
let
them
stay—who
cares?
If
they
want
to
jump
down
and
get
into
trouble,
who
objects?
It'll
be
dark
in
fifteen
minutes—let
them
follow
us
if
they
want.
I'm
okay
with
that.
I
think
whoever
threw
those
things
in
here
saw
us
and
thought
we
were
ghosts
or
devils.
I'll
bet
they're
still
running."
Joe
grumbled
for
a
while;
then
he
agreed
with
his
friend
that
they
should
use
the
remaining
daylight
to
get
ready
to
leave.
Soon
after,
they
slipped
out
of
the
house
in
the
deepening
twilight
and
moved
toward
the
river
with
their
precious
box.
