Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 13, Página 2
“Tom
Sawyer,
the
Black
Avenger
of
the
Spanish
Main.
State
your
names.”
“Huck
Finn
the
Red-Handed,
and
Joe
Harper
the
Terror
of
the
Seas.”
Tom
had
given
them
these
titles
from
his
favorite
books.
“It
is
well.
Give
the
countersign.”
Two
hoarse
whispers
delivered
the
same
terrifying
word
simultaneously
to
the
night:
“Blood!”
Then
Tom
dropped
his
ham
over
the
bluff
and
climbed
down
after
it,
tearing
his
skin
and
clothes
a
bit
in
the
process.
There
was
an
easy
path
along
the
shore
under
the
bluff,
but
it
lacked
the
difficulty
and
danger
that
a
pirate
valued.
The
Terror
of
the
Seas
had
brought
a
side
of
bacon
and
was
nearly
worn
out
from
carrying
it
there.
Finn
the
Red-Handed
had
stolen
a
skillet
and
some
half-cured
leaf
tobacco
and
had
brought
a
few
corn-cobs
to
make
pipes
with.
But
none
of
the
pirates
smoked
or
chewed
except
him.
The
Black
Avenger
of
the
Spanish
Main
said
they
couldn't
start
without
a
fire.
That
was
a
wise
thought;
matches
were
hardly
known
at
that
time.
They
saw
a
fire
smoldering
on
a
large
raft
a
hundred
yards
upstream
and
went
stealthily
to
help
themselves
to
a
piece.
They
made
an
adventure
of
it,
saying
“Hist!”
now
and
then,
stopping
with
fingers
on
their
lips,
moving
with
hands
on
imaginary
dagger-hilts,
and
giving
orders
in
hushed
whispers
that
if
“the
enemy”
stirred,
to
“let
him
have
it
to
the
hilt,”
because
“dead
men
tell
no
tales.”
They
knew
the
raftsmen
were
all
in
the
village
stocking
up
or
having
a
spree,
but
they
still
conducted
the
raid
in
a
piratical
way.
They
pushed
off
soon
after,
with
Tom
in
command,
Huck
at
the
rear
oar,
and
Joe
at
the
front.
Tom
stood
in
the
middle,
looking
serious,
arms
folded,
and
gave
his
orders
in
a
low,
stern
whisper:
