Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 26, Página 11
"Of
course!
Should
have
thought
of
that
earlier.
You
mean
Number
One?"
"No—Number
Two—under
the
cross.
The
other
place
is
bad—too
obvious."
"Alright.
It’s
almost
dark
enough
to
leave."
Injun
Joe
got
up
and
cautiously
looked
out
of
each
window.
Then
he
said:
"Who
could
have
brought
those
tools
here?
Do
you
think
they
might
be
upstairs?"
The
boys
stopped
breathing.
Injun
Joe
put
his
hand
on
his
knife,
hesitated
for
a
moment,
and
then
turned
toward
the
stairs.
The
boys
thought
of
the
closet,
but
they
were
too
weak.
The
steps
creaked
as
he
climbed—the
unbearable
tension
stirred
the
boys’
courage—they
were
about
to
leap
for
the
closet
when
rotten
timbers
crashed
and
Injun
Joe
fell
to
the
ground
amid
the
wreckage
of
the
ruined
stairway.
He
got
up
cursing,
and
his
comrade
said:
"What’s
the
point
of
all
that?
If
there’s
someone
up
there,
let
them
stay—who
cares?
If
they
want
to
jump
down
and
get
into
trouble,
who
objects?
It’ll
be
dark
soon—and
then
let
them
follow
us
if
they
want.
I’m
fine
with
it.
Whoever
brought
those
things
here
probably
saw
us
and
thought
we
were
ghosts
or
devils
or
something.
I
bet
they’re
still
running."
Joe
grumbled
for
a
while;
then
he
agreed
with
his
friend
that
what
daylight
was
left
should
be
used
to
get
ready
to
leave.
Shortly
after,
they
slipped
out
of
the
house
in
the
deepening
twilight,
heading
toward
the
river
with
their
precious
box.
