Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 29, Página 5
“By
God,
that’s—”
“Keep
your
opinion
to
yourself!
It
will
be
safer
for
you.
I’ll
tie
her
to
the
bed.
If
she
bleeds
to
death,
is
that
my
fault?
I
won’t
cry
if
she
does.
My
friend,
you’ll
help
me
with
this—for
my
sake—that’s
why
you’re
here—I
might
not
manage
alone.
If
you
hesitate,
I’ll
kill
you.
Do
you
understand
that?
And
if
I
have
to
kill
you,
I’ll
kill
her—and
then
I
guess
nobody’ll
ever
know
much
about
who
did
this.”
“Well,
if
it’s
got
to
be
done,
let’s
get
to
it.
The
sooner
the
better—I’m
all
in
a
shiver.”
“Do
it
now?
With
company
there?
Look
here—I’ll
start
suspecting
you,
first
thing
you
know.
No—we’ll
wait
till
the
lights
are
out—there’s
no
rush.”
Huck
sensed
a
silence
was
about
to
fall—a
silence
more
terrifying
than
any
amount
of
murderous
talk;
so
he
held
his
breath
and
stepped
back
carefully;
planting
his
foot
firmly
after
balancing,
one-legged,
precariously
and
almost
falling,
first
one
way
and
then
the
other.
He
took
another
step
back,
with
the
same
care
and
the
same
risks;
then
another
and
another,
and—a
twig
snapped
under
his
foot!
His
breath
stopped
and
he
listened.
There
was
no
sound—the
silence
was
complete.
His
relief
was
immense.
Now
he
turned
around,
between
the
walls
of
sumach
bushes—turned
as
carefully
as
if
he
were
a
ship—and
then
moved
quickly
but
cautiously.
When
he
reached
the
quarry,
he
felt
safe,
so
he
picked
up
his
pace
and
ran.
Down,
down
he
went,
until
he
reached
the
Welshman’s.
He
banged
on
the
door,
and
soon
the
heads
of
the
old
man
and
his
two
strong
sons
appeared
at
the
windows.
“What’s
going
on
there?
Who’s
knocking?
What
do
you
want?”
“Let
me
in—quick!
I’ll
tell
you
everything.”
“Who
are
you?”
