Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 33, Página 6
"And
kill
them?"
"No,
not
always.
We
trap
them
in
the
cave
until
they
pay
a
ransom."
"What's
a
ransom?"
"It's
money.
You
make
them
get
as
much
as
they
can
from
their
friends;
if
they
don't
pay
in
a
year,
then
you
kill
them.
That's
the
usual
way.
But
you
don't
kill
the
women.
You
lock
them
up,
but
you
don't
kill
them.
They're
always
beautiful
and
rich,
and
really
scared.
You
take
their
watches
and
things,
but
you
always
take
your
hat
off
and
speak
politely.
No
one
is
as
polite
as
robbers—you'll
see
that
in
any
book.
The
women
end
up
liking
you,
and
after
a
week
or
two
in
the
cave,
they
stop
crying
and
won't
want
to
leave.
If
you
kick
them
out,
they'd
turn
around
and
come
back.
It's
like
that
in
all
the
books."
"Wow,
that's
really
cool,
Tom.
I
think
it's
better
than
being
a
pirate."
"Yes,
it's
better
in
some
ways
because
it's
close
to
home
and
the
circuses
and
everything."
By
now,
everything
was
ready,
and
the
boys
entered
the
hole,
with
Tom
leading.
They
made
their
way
to
the
end
of
the
tunnel,
then
secured
their
spliced
kite-strings
and
moved
on.
A
few
steps
brought
them
to
the
spring,
and
Tom
felt
a
shiver
run
through
him.
He
showed
Huck
the
piece
of
candlewick
on
a
lump
of
clay
against
the
wall
and
described
how
he
and
Becky
watched
the
flame
struggle
and
die.
The
boys
started
whispering
because
the
silence
and
darkness
of
the
place
weighed
on
them.
They
continued,
following
Tom’s
other
corridor
until
they
reached
the
“jumping-off
place.”
The
candles
showed
it
wasn't
really
a
cliff
but
a
steep
clay
hill
about
twenty
or
thirty
feet
high.
Tom
whispered:
