Las aventuras de Tom Sawyer
Capítulo 4, Página 1
The
sun
rose
over
a
calm
world,
shining
down
on
the
peaceful
village
as
if
offering
a
blessing.
After
breakfast,
Aunt
Polly
held
family
worship,
starting
with
a
prayer
filled
with
solid
Scriptural
quotes,
lightly
mixed
with
her
own
thoughts.
From
that
point,
she
delivered
a
stern
chapter
of
Mosaic
Law,
much
like
it
was
from
Mount
Sinai.
Then
Tom
prepared
himself,
as
it
were,
to
start
memorizing
his
verses.
Sid
had
learned
his
lesson
days
earlier.
Tom
focused
all
his
energy
on
memorizing
five
verses,
choosing
a
part
of
the
Sermon
on
the
Mount
because
no
shorter
verses
were
available.
After
thirty
minutes,
Tom
had
a
vague
understanding
of
his
lesson,
but
no
more,
as
his
mind
was
wandering
through
many
thoughts,
and
his
hands
were
busy
with
distractions.
Mary
took
his
book
to
hear
him
recite,
and
he
tried
to
navigate
through
the
confusion:
“Blessed
are
the—a—a—”
“Poor”—
“Yes—poor;
blessed
are
the
poor—a—a—”
“In
spirit—”
“In
spirit;
blessed
are
the
poor
in
spirit,
for
they—they—”
“Theirs—”
