El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 4, Página 1
On
Sunday
morning,
the
church
bells
rang.
Many
people
came
to
Gatsby's
house.
They
laughed
on
his
lawn.
"He's
a
bootlegger,"
said
the
young
ladies.
They
walked
between
his
cocktails
and
flowers.
"He
killed
a
man
once.
Give
me
a
rose
and
more
drink,
please."
I
wrote
names
on
a
timetable.
It
was
for
people
who
came
to
Gatsby's
house
that
summer.
The
timetable
is
old
now,
but
I
can
still
read
the
names.
They
show
who
enjoyed
Gatsby's
parties
but
knew
nothing
about
him.
From
East
Egg
came
the
Chester
Beckers
and
the
Leeches.
I
knew
a
man
named
Bunsen
from
Yale.
Doctor
Webster
Civet
drowned
last
summer
in
Maine.
The
Hornbeams,
the
Willie
Voltaires,
and
the
Blackbuck
family
came
too.
They
always
stood
in
a
corner.
The
Ismays,
the
Chrysties,
and
Edgar
Beaver,
whose
hair
turned
white
one
winter,
also
came.
Clarence
Endive
came
from
East
Egg.
He
came
once
in
white
pants
and
fought
with
a
man
named
Etty.
The
Cheadles,
the
O.
R.
P.
Schraeders,
and
Stonewall
Jackson
Abrams
from
Georgia
came
too.
Ripley
Snell
was
there
three
days
before
he
went
to
jail.
He
was
so
drunk
that
a
car
ran
over
his
hand.
The
Dancies,
S.
B.
Whitebait,
Maurice
A.
Flink,
the
Hammerheads,
and
Beluga
the
tobacco
importer
came
too.
From
West
Egg
came
the
Poles,
the
Mulreadys,
Cecil
Roebuck,
and
Cecil
Schoen.
Gulick
the
State
senator
and
Newton
Orchid,
who
controlled
movies,
also
came.
Many
people
connected
with
movies
were
there.
Da
Fontano
the
promoter,
Ed
Legros,
James
B.
Ferret,
the
De
Jongs,
and
Ernest
Lilly
came
to
gamble.
