El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 9, Página 22
"Jimmy
wanted
to
do
well.
He
always
had
plans
like
this.
Did
you
see
how
he
wanted
to
learn
more?
He
liked
to
do
that.
He
said
I
ate
like
a
pig
once,
and
I
hit
him
for
it."
He
did
not
want
to
close
the
book.
He
read
each
thing
out
loud
and
looked
at
me.
I
think
he
wanted
me
to
write
the
list
too.
Before
three,
the
minister
came.
I
looked
out
the
window
for
other
cars.
So
did
Gatsby's
father.
Time
passed.
The
servants
stood
in
the
hall.
His
eyes
blinked
a
lot.
He
talked
about
the
rain.
The
minister
checked
his
watch.
I
asked
him
to
wait.
But
no
one
came.
At
five,
we
reached
the
cemetery.
Three
cars
stopped
by
the
gate.
First
was
a
black
hearse.
Then
Mr.
Gatz,
the
minister,
and
me
in
a
car.
Later,
some
servants
and
the
postman
came
in
Gatsby’s
car.
We
walked
into
the
cemetery.
I
heard
a
car
stop.
Someone
splashed
after
us.
I
looked.
It
was
the
man
with
owl-eyed
glasses.
I
saw
him
in
Gatsby’s
library
before.
I
never
saw
him
after
that.
I
didn’t
know
how
he
knew
about
the
funeral.
The
rain
ran
down
his
glasses.
He
took
them
off
and
wiped
them.
He
watched
the
canvas
over
Gatsby’s
grave.
I
thought
about
Gatsby.
He
felt
far
away.
Daisy
didn’t
send
flowers
or
a
message.
Someone
said,
“Blessed
are
the
dead
that
the
rain
falls
on.”
The
owl-eyed
man
said,
“Amen
to
that.”
