El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 4, Página 24
"Congratulate
me,"
she
mumbled.
"Never
drank
before,
but
I
like
it."
"What’s
wrong,
Daisy?"
I
was
scared;
I’d
never
seen
a
girl
like
that
before.
"Here,
take
these,"
she
said.
She
searched
in
a
basket
on
the
bed
and
pulled
out
a
string
of
pearls.
"Take
them
downstairs.
Give
them
back
to
whoever
they
belong
to.
Tell
them
Daisy
changed
her
mind.
Say:
'Daisy
changed
her
mind!'"
She
started
to
cry—a
lot.
I
ran
out
and
found
her
mother’s
maid.
We
locked
the
door
and
put
her
in
a
cold
bath.
She
held
onto
the
letter.
She
took
it
into
the
bath
with
her
and
squeezed
it
into
a
wet
ball.
She
only
let
me
leave
it
in
the
soap
dish
when
she
saw
it
was
falling
apart.
But
she
didn’t
speak
again.
We
gave
her
spirits
of
ammonia
and
put
ice
on
her
forehead.
We
helped
her
back
into
her
dress.
Thirty
minutes
later,
when
we
left
the
room,
the
pearls
were
around
her
neck
and
it
was
over.
The
next
day
at
five
o’clock
she
married
Tom
Buchanan
without
shaking,
and
they
went
on
a
three-month
trip
to
the
South
Seas.
