El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 6, Página 10
“She
says
she
does
want
him.”
“She
has
a
big
dinner
party
and
he
won’t
know
anyone
there.”
He
frowned.
“I
wonder
where
he
met
Daisy.
By
God,
I
may
be
old-fashioned,
but
women
go
around
too
much
these
days.
They
meet
all
kinds
of
strange
people.”
Suddenly
Mr.
Sloane
and
the
lady
walked
down
the
steps
and
got
on
their
horses.
“Come
on,”
said
Mr.
Sloane
to
Tom,
“we’re
late.
We
have
to
go.”
And
then
to
me:
“Tell
him
we
couldn’t
wait,
will
you?”
Tom
and
I
shook
hands,
the
rest
of
us
nodded
quickly,
and
they
rode
down
the
drive,
disappearing
under
the
August
trees
just
as
Gatsby,
with
his
hat
and
coat
in
hand,
came
out
the
front
door.
Tom
was
worried
about
Daisy
being
alone,
so
on
the
next
Saturday
night
he
came
with
her
to
Gatsby’s
party.
Maybe
his
presence
made
the
evening
feel
heavy—it
stands
out
in
my
memory
from
Gatsby’s
other
parties
that
summer.
There
were
the
same
people,
or
at
least
the
same
type
of
people,
the
same
champagne,
the
same
noise,
but
I
felt
something
unpleasant
in
the
air,
a
harshness
that
wasn’t
there
before.
Or
maybe
I
had
just
gotten
used
to
it,
accepted
West
Egg
as
a
world
on
its
own,
with
its
own
rules
and
big
people,
second
to
nothing
because
it
didn’t
know
it
was,
and
now
I
was
seeing
it
again,
through
Daisy’s
eyes.
It
is
always
sad
to
look
through
new
eyes
at
things
you
have
gotten
used
to.
