El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 6, Página 2
I
think
he
had
the
name
ready
for
a
while.
His
parents
were
poor
farmers,
but
he
did
not
see
them
as
his
parents.
Jay
Gatsby
of
West
Egg,
Long
Island,
was
his
own
idea.
He
thought
he
was
special,
like
a
son
of
God,
and
had
to
follow
a
grand
dream.
So
he
created
Jay
Gatsby,
someone
a
seventeen-year-old
would
imagine,
and
he
stayed
true
to
that
idea.
For
more
than
a
year,
he
worked
along
Lake
Superior.
He
dug
clams
and
caught
salmon
or
did
any
job
for
food
and
a
bed.
His
body
grew
strong
from
the
hard
work.
He
knew
women
early,
and
they
spoiled
him.
So,
he
didn’t
think
much
of
them.
He
found
young
women
silly
and
others
too
emotional.
But
his
heart
was
always
restless.
Strange
and
wild
dreams
filled
his
nights.
He
imagined
a
bright
and
fancy
world
while
the
clock
ticked
and
the
moon
shone
on
his
clothes.
Each
night,
he
added
to
his
dreams
until
sleep
took
over.
These
dreams
gave
him
a
sense
of
escape
and
hope
that
life
was
more
than
it
seemed.
His
dreams
led
him
to
St.
Olaf’s
College
in
Minnesota.
He
stayed
two
weeks
but
disliked
it.
The
college
didn’t
care
about
his
big
dreams,
and
he
hated
the
janitor
work
he
had
to
do.
So
he
went
back
to
Lake
Superior,
still
looking
for
something,
until
Dan
Cody’s
yacht
appeared.
Cody
was
fifty,
made
rich
by
silver
and
gold.
He
was
strong
but
losing
his
mind
a
bit,
and
many
women
tried
to
take
his
money.
Ella
Kaye,
a
newspaper
woman,
played
on
his
weakness
and
took
him
to
sea
on
a
yacht.
He
had
been
traveling
for
five
years
when
he
met
James
Gatz
in
Little
Girl
Bay.
To
young
Gatz,
the
yacht
was
full
of
beauty
and
adventure.
He
probably
smiled
at
Cody,
knowing
people
liked
him
when
he
smiled.
Cody
asked
him
questions
and
found
him
quick
and
ambitious.
A
few
days
later,
Cody
took
him
to
Duluth
and
bought
him
clothes.
When
the
yacht
left
for
the
West
Indies,
Gatsby
went
too.
