El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 9, Página 1
After
two
years,
I
remember
the
rest
of
that
day
and
night.
The
police,
photographers,
and
newspaper
men
came
and
went
through
Gatsby’s
front
door.
A
rope
was
across
the
main
gate,
and
a
policeman
stopped
people
from
coming
in.
But
little
boys
found
a
way
through
my
yard.
They
gathered
around
the
pool,
looking
at
it
with
open
mouths.
Someone,
maybe
a
detective,
called
Wilson
a
"madman"
when
he
saw
his
body.
The
newspapers
used
that
word
the
next
day.
Most
reports
were
terrible—strange
and
not
true.
When
Michaelis
spoke
at
the
inquest,
Wilson’s
thoughts
about
his
wife
were
revealed.
I
thought
the
story
would
become
a
joke,
but
Catherine
said
nothing.
She
showed
strength.
She
looked
at
the
coroner
and
said
her
sister
never
saw
Gatsby.
She
said
her
sister
was
happy
with
her
husband
and
did
nothing
wrong.
She
believed
it
and
cried
into
her
handkerchief.
So,
they
said
Wilson
was
just
sad,
and
the
case
stayed
simple.
But
this
part
seemed
far
away
and
not
important.
I
felt
I
was
on
Gatsby’s
side,
and
I
was
alone.
When
I
called
West
Egg
with
the
bad
news,
everyone
asked
me
about
Gatsby.
At
first,
I
was
surprised
and
confused.
Then,
as
he
lay
there
not
moving,
I
felt
responsible.
No
one
else
cared
enough.
Half
an
hour
after
we
found
him,
I
called
Daisy.
I
did
it
without
thinking.
But
she
and
Tom
left
that
afternoon
with
their
bags.
“Left
no
address?”
“No.”
