El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 9, Página 25
She
was
dressed
for
golf,
and
I
thought
she
looked
like
a
picture.
Her
chin
was
up,
her
hair
the
color
of
an
autumn
leaf,
her
face
the
same
brown
as
the
glove
on
her
knee.
When
I
finished,
she
told
me
she
was
engaged
to
another
man.
I
didn’t
believe
it,
though
she
could
marry
many
men
with
a
nod.
But
I
pretended
to
be
surprised.
For
a
minute,
I
wondered
if
I
made
a
mistake,
then
I
thought
again
and
got
up
to
say
goodbye.
“You
did
leave
me,”
said
Jordan
suddenly.
“You
left
me
on
the
phone.
I
don’t
care
about
you
now,
but
it
was
new
for
me,
and
I
felt
a
little
dizzy.”
We
shook
hands.
“Oh,
do
you
remember,”
she
added,
“a
talk
we
had
about
driving
a
car?”
“Why—not
really.”
“You
said
a
bad
driver
is
only
safe
until
she
meets
another
bad
driver?
Well,
I
met
another
bad
driver.
I
made
a
wrong
guess.
I
thought
you
were
honest.
I
thought
it
was
your
pride.”
