El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 9, Página 27
“Tom,”
I
asked,
“what
did
you
say
to
Wilson
that
afternoon?”
He
looked
at
me
without
speaking,
and
I
knew
I
was
right
about
those
missing
hours.
I
started
to
turn
away,
but
he
grabbed
my
arm.
"I
told
him
the
truth,"
he
said.
"He
came
to
the
door
when
we
were
getting
ready
to
leave.
I
sent
word
that
we
weren't
in,
but
he
tried
to
come
upstairs.
He
was
crazy
enough
to
kill
me
if
I
hadn't
told
him
who
owned
the
car.
He
had
a
gun
in
his
pocket
the
whole
time."
He
stopped
and
looked
angry.
"So
what
if
I
told
him?
That
guy
deserved
it.
He
tricked
you
just
like
he
tricked
Daisy.
He
ran
over
Myrtle
like
you
run
over
a
dog
and
didn't
stop
his
car."
I
had
nothing
to
say,
except
that
it
wasn’t
true.
"And
if
you
think
I
didn't
suffer—look,
when
I
went
to
leave
that
flat
and
saw
that
box
of
dog
biscuits
on
the
table,
I
sat
down
and
cried
like
a
baby.
It
was
terrible—"
I
couldn't
forgive
him
or
like
him,
but
I
saw
that
he
thought
he
was
right.
It
was
all
very
careless
and
messy.
Tom
and
Daisy
were
careless
people—they
broke
things
and
then
went
back
to
their
money
or
their
carelessness,
and
let
others
clean
up
their
mess.
