El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 1, Página 16
The
butler
returned
and
whispered
something
to
Tom,
who
frowned,
pushed
back
his
chair,
and
went
inside
without
a
word.
As
if
his
absence
energized
her,
Daisy
leaned
forward,
her
voice
lively
and
bright.
“I
love
having
you
at
my
table,
Nick.
You
remind
me
of
a
rose,
an
absolute
rose.
Doesn’t
he?”
She
turned
to
Miss
Baker
for
agreement.
“An
absolute
rose?”
This
wasn’t
true.
I’m
not
like
a
rose.
She
was
just
making
it
up,
but
a
warm
feeling
came
from
her,
as
if
her
heart
was
trying
to
reach
out
through
her
thrilling
words.
Then
suddenly,
she
threw
her
napkin
on
the
table
and
excused
herself,
going
inside.
Miss
Baker
and
I
exchanged
a
quick
glance,
without
meaning.
I
was
about
to
speak
when
she
sat
up
and
said,
“Sh!”
in
a
warning
voice.
We
could
hear
a
quiet,
passionate
murmur
from
the
next
room,
and
Miss
Baker
leaned
in,
trying
to
listen.
The
murmur
rose
and
fell,
almost
becoming
clear,
then
stopped.
“This
Mr.
Gatsby
you
mentioned
is
my
neighbor—”
I
began.
“Don’t
talk.
I
want
to
hear
what
happens.”
