El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 2, Página 20
"Crazy
about
him!"
Myrtle
exclaimed
incredulously.
"Who
said
I
was
crazy
about
him?
I
was
never
more
crazy
about
him
than
I
am
about
that
man
there."
She
pointed
suddenly
at
me,
and
everyone
looked
at
me
accusingly.
I
tried
to
show
by
my
expression
that
I
expected
no
affection.
"The
only
crazy
thing
I
did
was
marrying
him.
I
knew
right
away
it
was
a
mistake.
He
borrowed
someone’s
best
suit
to
get
married
in
and
never
told
me.
One
day
the
man
came
for
it
when
he
was
out.
'Oh,
is
that
your
suit?'
I
asked.
'This
is
the
first
I
heard
about
it.'
But
I
gave
it
to
him
and
then
cried
all
afternoon."
"She
really
ought
to
leave
him,"
Catherine
resumed
to
me.
"They've
been
living
over
that
garage
for
eleven
years.
And
Tom's
the
first
sweetie
she
ever
had."
The
second
bottle
of
whisky
was
now
in
constant
demand
by
everyone,
except
Catherine,
who
"felt
just
as
good
on
nothing
at
all."
Tom
called
for
the
janitor
and
sent
him
for
some
famous
sandwiches,
which
were
a
complete
meal.
I
wanted
to
get
out
and
walk
to
the
park
through
the
soft
twilight,
but
every
time
I
tried,
I
got
caught
in
some
wild
argument
that
pulled
me
back
into
my
chair.
Yet,
high
over
the
city,
our
line
of
yellow
windows
must
have
added
their
share
of
human
secrecy
to
the
casual
watcher
in
the
darkening
streets,
and
I
saw
him
too,
looking
up
and
wondering.
I
was
both
inside
and
outside,
enchanted
and
repelled
by
the
endless
variety
of
life.
Myrtle
pulled
her
chair
close
to
mine,
and
suddenly
her
warm
breath
poured
over
me
as
she
told
me
the
story
of
her
first
meeting
with
Tom.
