El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 3, Página 10
"Has
it?"
"A
little
bit,
I
think.
I
can't
tell
yet.
I've
only
been
here
an
hour.
Did
I
tell
you
about
the
books?
They're
real.
They're—"
"You
told
us."
We
shook
hands
with
him
seriously
and
went
back
outside.
There
was
dancing
now
on
the
canvas
in
the
garden;
old
men
pushing
young
girls
backward
in
endless
awkward
circles,
superior
couples
holding
each
other
fashionably
and
staying
in
the
corners—and
many
single
girls
dancing
alone
or
giving
the
orchestra
a
break
from
the
banjo
or
drums.
By
midnight,
the
excitement
had
grown.
A
famous
tenor
sang
in
Italian,
and
a
well-known
contralto
sang
in
jazz,
and
between
songs,
people
performed
"stunts"
all
over
the
garden,
while
happy,
empty
bursts
of
laughter
rose
to
the
summer
sky.
A
pair
of
stage
twins,
who
turned
out
to
be
the
girls
in
yellow,
did
a
baby
act
in
costume,
and
champagne
was
served
in
glasses
bigger
than
finger-bowls.
The
moon
had
risen
higher,
and
floating
on
the
Sound
was
a
triangle
of
silver
scales,
trembling
a
little
to
the
stiff,
tinny
sound
of
the
banjos
on
the
lawn.
I
was
still
with
Jordan
Baker.
We
were
sitting
at
a
table
with
a
man
about
my
age
and
a
lively
little
girl
who
burst
into
uncontrollable
laughter
at
the
slightest
thing.
I
was
enjoying
myself
now.
I
had
two
glasses
of
champagne,
and
the
scene
had
turned
into
something
meaningful,
basic,
and
deep.
