El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 5, Página 15
I
went
out
the
back
way,
just
as
Gatsby
had
done
earlier.
I
ran
to
a
big
tree
with
lots
of
leaves
to
stay
dry
from
the
rain.
It
was
pouring
again,
and
the
garden
was
full
of
small
muddy
puddles.
From
under
the
tree,
I
could
only
see
Gatsby’s
large
house,
so
I
stared
at
it
for
half
an
hour.
A
brewer
had
built
it
years
ago,
and
there
was
a
story
that
he
offered
to
pay
taxes
for
the
neighbors
if
they
thatched
their
roofs.
Maybe
their
refusal
ruined
his
plan
to
start
a
family.
His
children
sold
the
house
with
a
black
wreath
still
on
the
door.
Americans
are
willing
to
work
hard
but
don’t
want
to
be
peasants.
After
half
an
hour,
the
sun
came
out
again.
The
grocer’s
car
arrived
with
food
for
Gatsby’s
servants.
I
was
sure
Gatsby
wouldn’t
eat
any
of
it.
A
maid
opened
the
windows,
leaned
out,
and
spat
into
the
garden.
It
was
time
to
go
back
inside.
While
it
rained,
it
sounded
like
their
voices
were
rising
and
falling
with
emotion.
But
now,
in
the
silence,
I
felt
the
house
was
quiet
too.
I
went
inside,
making
as
much
noise
as
possible
in
the
kitchen,
but
I
don’t
think
they
heard
me.
They
were
sitting
at
opposite
ends
of
the
couch,
looking
at
each
other
as
if
a
question
had
been
asked.
All
their
embarrassment
was
gone.
Daisy’s
face
was
wet
with
tears,
and
when
I
entered,
she
quickly
wiped
it
with
her
handkerchief
in
front
of
a
mirror.
But
Gatsby
had
changed.
He
seemed
to
glow
with
happiness,
filling
the
room
without
saying
a
word.
"Oh,
hello,
old
sport,"
he
said,
as
if
he
hadn’t
seen
me
for
a
long
time.
I
thought
he
might
shake
my
hand.
"It’s
stopped
raining."
"Has
it?"
When
he
realized
what
I
meant,
that
the
sun
was
shining,
he
smiled
like
a
happy
weather
man
and
told
Daisy,
"What
do
you
think
of
that?
It’s
stopped
raining."
