El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 6, Página 16
“Anything
I
hate
is
to
get
my
head
stuck
in
a
pool,”
mumbled
Miss
Baedeker.
“They
almost
drowned
me
once
over
in
New
Jersey.”
“Then
you
ought
to
leave
it
alone,”
replied
Doctor
Civet.
“Speak
for
yourself!”
cried
Miss
Baedeker
violently.
“Your
hand
shakes.
I
wouldn’t
let
you
operate
on
me!”
It
was
like
that.
Almost
the
last
thing
I
remember
was
standing
with
Daisy
and
watching
the
movie
director
and
his
Star.
They
were
still
under
the
white-plum
tree,
and
their
faces
were
close
except
for
a
thin
ray
of
moonlight
between
them.
I
realized
he
had
been
slowly
leaning
toward
her
all
evening
to
get
this
close,
and
even
as
I
watched,
I
saw
him
bend
one
final
time
and
kiss
her
cheek.
“I
like
her,”
said
Daisy,
“I
think
she’s
lovely.”
But
the
rest
of
it
upset
her—and
clearly
because
it
wasn’t
just
a
gesture
but
a
real
emotion.
She
was
shocked
by
West
Egg,
this
strange
“place”
that
Broadway
had
created
out
of
a
Long
Island
fishing
village—shocked
by
its
raw
energy
that
didn’t
fit
with
old-fashioned
manners
and
by
the
obvious
fate
that
pushed
its
people
along
a
quick
path
from
nothing
to
nothing.
She
saw
something
terrible
in
the
simplicity
she
couldn’t
understand.
