El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 9, Página 25
She
was
dressed
for
golf,
and
I
thought
she
looked
like
a
good
picture,
her
chin
raised
a
little
confidently,
her
hair
the
color
of
an
autumn
leaf,
her
face
the
same
brown
as
the
fingerless
glove
on
her
knee.
When
I
finished,
she
told
me
she
was
engaged
to
another
man.
I
doubted
it,
though
there
were
several
she
could
have
married
just
by
nodding
her
head,
but
I
pretended
to
be
surprised.
For
a
moment,
I
wondered
if
I
was
making
a
mistake,
then
I
quickly
thought
it
over
again
and
got
up
to
say
goodbye.
"Still,
you
did
break
up
with
me,"
said
Jordan
suddenly.
"You
ended
it
over
the
phone.
I
don’t
care
about
you
now,
but
it
was
new
for
me,
and
I
felt
a
little
dizzy
for
a
while."
We
shook
hands.
"Oh,
do
you
remember,"
she
added,
"a
conversation
we
had
once
about
driving
a
car?"
"Why—not
exactly."
"You
said
a
bad
driver
was
only
safe
until
she
met
another
bad
driver?
Well,
I
met
another
bad
driver,
didn’t
I?
I
mean,
it
was
careless
of
me
to
make
such
a
wrong
guess.
I
thought
you
were
honest
and
straightforward.
I
thought
it
was
your
secret
pride."
