El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 9, Página 27
"Tom,"
I
asked,
"what
did
you
say
to
Wilson
that
afternoon?"
He
looked
at
me
without
saying
anything,
and
I
knew
I
was
right
about
the
missing
hours.
I
started
to
walk
away,
but
he
stepped
forward
and
grabbed
my
arm.
"I
told
him
the
truth,"
he
said.
"He
came
to
the
door
while
we
were
getting
ready
to
leave.
When
I
sent
a
message
that
we
weren't
in,
he
tried
to
force
his
way
upstairs.
He
might
have
killed
me
if
I
hadn't
told
him
who
owned
the
car.
His
hand
was
on
a
gun
in
his
pocket
the
whole
time
he
was
in
the
house—"
He
stopped
and
looked
defensive.
"What
if
I
did
tell
him?
That
guy
deserved
it.
He
fooled
you
just
like
he
fooled
Daisy,
but
he
was
tough.
He
ran
over
Myrtle
like
you
would
run
over
a
dog
and
didn't
even
stop
the
car."
I
couldn't
say
anything,
except
that
the
real
truth
was
something
else.
"And
if
you
think
I
didn't
suffer—look,
when
I
went
to
give
up
that
apartment
and
saw
that
box
of
dog
biscuits
on
the
sideboard,
I
sat
down
and
cried
like
a
baby.
It
was
so
awful—"
I
couldn't
forgive
him
or
like
him,
but
I
saw
that
he
thought
he
was
justified.
Everything
was
careless
and
confused.
Tom
and
Daisy
were
careless
people—they
broke
things
and
people
and
then
hid
behind
their
money
or
their
carelessness,
or
whatever
it
was
that
kept
them
together,
and
let
others
clean
up
their
mess.
