El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 5, Página 1
When
I
got
back
to
West
Egg
that
night,
I
was
briefly
scared
that
my
house
was
on
fire.
It
was
two
in
the
morning,
and
the
entire
corner
of
the
peninsula
was
glowing
with
light,
which
cast
an
unreal
glow
on
the
plants
and
made
the
wires
along
the
road
shimmer.
As
I
turned
a
corner,
I
saw
it
was
Gatsby’s
house,
illuminated
from
top
to
bottom.
Initially,
I
thought
it
was
another
party,
a
wild
gathering
that
had
turned
into
a
game
of
“hide-and-seek”
or
“sardines-in-the-box,”
with
the
whole
house
open
for
play.
But
there
was
no
noise.
Only
the
wind
rustling
the
trees,
shaking
the
wires
so
the
lights
flickered
on
and
off
like
the
house
was
winking.
As
my
taxi
drove
away,
I
saw
Gatsby
walking
towards
me
across
his
lawn.
“Your
place
looks
like
the
World’s
Fair,”
I
said.
“Does
it?”
He
turned
his
eyes
toward
it
absentmindedly.
“I’ve
been
looking
into
some
of
the
rooms.
Let’s
go
to
Coney
Island,
old
sport.
In
my
car.”
“It’s
too
late.”
“Well,
how
about
a
swim
in
the
pool?
I
haven't
used
it
all
summer.”
