El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 5, Página 11
“I
certainly
am
awfully
glad
to
see
you
again.”
A
pause;
it
lasted
horribly.
I
had
nothing
to
do
in
the
hall,
so
I
went
into
the
room.
Gatsby,
with
his
hands
still
in
his
pockets,
leaned
against
the
mantelpiece,
trying
hard
to
appear
completely
at
ease,
as
if
he
were
bored.
His
head
was
tilted
so
far
back
that
it
rested
against
the
face
of
a
broken
mantelpiece
clock.
From
this
position,
his
anxious
eyes
looked
down
at
Daisy,
who
was
sitting
on
the
edge
of
a
stiff
chair,
frightened
but
still
elegant.
“We’ve
met
before,”
Gatsby
muttered.
He
glanced
at
me
briefly,
and
his
lips
parted
as
if
to
laugh,
but
he
didn’t.
Just
then,
the
clock
tilted
dangerously
under
the
pressure
of
his
head,
so
he
turned
and
caught
it
with
shaking
fingers,
setting
it
back
in
place.
Then
he
sat
down
stiffly,
his
elbow
resting
on
the
arm
of
the
sofa
and
his
chin
in
his
hand.
“I’m
sorry
about
the
clock,”
he
said.
My
face
was
now
burning
red.
I
couldn’t
think
of
a
single
ordinary
thing
to
say,
despite
having
a
thousand
thoughts
in
my
head.
