El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 6, Página 10
“She
says
she
does
want
him.”
“She
has
a
big
dinner
party,
and
he
won’t
know
anyone
there.”
He
frowned.
“I
wonder
where
he
met
Daisy.
I
might
be
old-fashioned,
but
women
run
around
too
much
these
days.
They
meet
all
sorts
of
strange
people.”
Suddenly,
Mr.
Sloane
and
the
lady
went
down
the
steps
and
got
on
their
horses.
“Come
on,”
said
Mr.
Sloane
to
Tom,
“we’re
late.
We
have
to
go.”
And
then
to
me:
“Tell
him
we
couldn’t
wait,
will
you?”
Tom
and
I
shook
hands,
the
rest
of
us
exchanged
a
cool
nod,
and
they
quickly
rode
down
the
drive,
disappearing
under
the
August
trees
just
as
Gatsby,
with
his
hat
and
light
coat
in
hand,
came
out
the
front
door.
Tom
was
clearly
upset
about
Daisy
going
out
alone,
because
the
following
Saturday
night
he
came
with
her
to
Gatsby’s
party.
Perhaps
his
presence
gave
the
evening
its
peculiar
oppressive
feeling—it
stands
out
in
my
memory
from
Gatsby’s
other
parties
that
summer.
There
were
the
same
people,
or
at
least
the
same
kind
of
people,
the
same
abundance
of
champagne,
the
same
colorful,
chaotic
commotion,
but
I
sensed
an
unpleasantness
in
the
air,
a
harshness
that
wasn’t
there
before.
Or
maybe
I
had
just
grown
used
to
it,
come
to
accept
West
Egg
as
a
world
complete
in
itself,
with
its
own
standards
and
its
own
great
figures,
second
to
none
because
it
wasn’t
aware
of
being
so,
and
now
I
was
seeing
it
again,
through
Daisy’s
eyes.
It’s
always
sad
to
see
things
through
new
eyes
after
you’ve
adjusted
to
them
yourself.
