El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 6, Página 16
“I
hate
getting
my
head
stuck
in
a
pool,”
mumbled
Miss
Baedeker.
“They
nearly
drowned
me
once
in
New
Jersey.”
“Then
you
should
leave
it
alone,”
said
Doctor
Civet.
“Speak
for
yourself!”
cried
Miss
Baedeker
violently.
“Your
hand
shakes.
I
wouldn’t
let
you
operate
on
me!”
That's
how
it
was.
One
of
the
last
things
I
recall
is
standing
with
Daisy,
watching
the
film
director
and
his
Star.
They
were
still
under
the
white-plum
tree,
their
faces
nearly
touching,
separated
only
by
a
thin
ray
of
moonlight.
I
realized
he
had
been
slowly
leaning
toward
her
all
evening
to
get
this
close,
and
while
I
watched,
he
finally
bent
down
and
kissed
her
cheek.
“I
like
her,”
Daisy
said.
“I
think
she’s
lovely.”
But
the
rest
of
it
bothered
her—clearly
because
it
wasn’t
just
a
gesture
but
a
feeling.
She
was
disturbed
by
West
Egg,
this
strange
“place”
that
Broadway
had
created
in
a
Long
Island
fishing
village—shocked
by
its
raw
energy
that
clashed
with
old
traditions
and
by
the
obvious
destiny
that
pushed
its
people
from
nowhere
to
nowhere.
She
saw
something
terrible
in
the
simplicity
she
couldn’t
grasp.
