El Gran Gatsby
Capítulo 7, Página 23
“Listen,
Tom.
If
you’re
such
a
snob,
why
did
you
invite
him
to
lunch?”
Jordan
asked
crossly.
“Daisy
invited
him;
she
knew
him
before
we
were
married—God
knows
where!”
We
were
all
irritable
now
with
the
fading
effects
of
the
ale,
and
aware
of
it,
we
drove
for
a
while
in
silence.
Then,
as
Doctor
T.
J.
Eckleburg’s
faded
eyes
came
into
view
down
the
road,
I
remembered
Gatsby’s
comment
about
the
gasoline.
“We’ve
got
enough
to
get
us
to
town,”
Tom
said.
“But
there’s
a
garage
right
here,”
Jordan
objected.
“I
don’t
want
to
get
stuck
in
this
baking
heat.”
Tom
impatiently
slammed
on
both
brakes,
and
we
skidded
to
a
dusty
stop
under
Wilson’s
sign.
After
a
moment,
the
owner
came
out
from
inside
and
looked
at
the
car
with
hollow
eyes.
