El Maravilloso Mago de Oz
Capítulo 1, Página 1
Dorothy
lived
in
Kansas
with
Uncle
Henry
and
Aunt
Em.
Uncle
Henry
was
a
farmer,
and
Aunt
Em
was
his
wife.
Their
house
was
small
because
they
had
to
bring
the
wood
from
far
away.
The
house
had
four
walls,
a
floor,
and
a
roof.
Inside,
there
was
a
rusty
stove,
a
cupboard,
a
table,
some
chairs,
and
beds.
Uncle
Henry
and
Aunt
Em
had
a
big
bed
in
one
corner,
and
Dorothy
had
a
small
bed
in
another
corner.
There
was
no
attic
or
basement,
only
a
small
hole
in
the
ground
called
a
cyclone
cellar.
The
family
could
go
there
if
a
big
storm
came.
They
reached
it
by
a
trap
door
in
the
floor,
with
a
ladder
going
down.
When
Dorothy
stood
in
the
doorway,
she
saw
the
big,
gray
prairie
all
around.
There
were
no
trees
or
houses,
just
flat
land
reaching
the
sky.
The
sun
made
the
land
dry
and
cracked.
The
grass
was
not
green
because
the
sun
burned
it.
The
house
was
once
painted,
but
the
sun
and
rain
made
it
gray
too.
Aunt
Em
was
young
and
pretty
when
she
came
to
live
there.
But
the
sun
and
wind
changed
her.
Her
eyes
lost
their
sparkle
and
turned
gray.
Her
cheeks
and
lips
turned
gray
too.
She
became
thin
and
never
smiled.
When
Dorothy,
who
had
no
parents,
first
came,
Aunt
Em
was
surprised
by
her
laughter.
She
would
scream
and
hold
her
heart
when
Dorothy
laughed.
She
still
looked
at
Dorothy
with
wonder
because
she
could
laugh.
Uncle
Henry
never
laughed.
He
worked
hard
all
day
and
did
not
know
joy.
He
was
gray
from
his
beard
to
his
boots.
He
looked
serious
and
did
not
talk
much.
Toto
made
Dorothy
laugh
and
kept
her
from
becoming
gray
like
everything
else.
Toto
was
not
gray;
he
was
a
little
black
dog
with
long,
silky
hair
and
small,
shiny
eyes.
Toto
played
all
day,
and
Dorothy
played
with
him
and
loved
him.
Today,
they
were
not
playing.
Uncle
Henry
sat
on
the
doorstep
and
looked
at
the
sky.
It
was
grayer
than
usual.
Dorothy
stood
in
the
door
with
Toto
in
her
arms
and
looked
at
the
sky
too.
Aunt
Em
was
washing
dishes.
