El Maravilloso Mago de Oz
Capítulo 5, Página 8
"I
was
born
the
son
of
a
woodman
who
chopped
trees
and
sold
the
wood.
When
I
grew
up,
I
became
a
wood-chopper
too.
After
my
father
died,
I
took
care
of
my
old
mother.
Then
I
decided
to
marry,
so
I
would
not
be
lonely.
"There
was
a
beautiful
Munchkin
girl
I
loved
with
all
my
heart.
She
promised
to
marry
me
when
I
earned
enough
to
build
a
better
house
for
her.
I
worked
harder
than
ever.
But
she
lived
with
an
old
woman
who
did
not
want
her
to
marry.
The
woman
was
lazy
and
wanted
the
girl
to
stay
and
work
for
her.
So
the
old
woman
went
to
the
Wicked
Witch
of
the
East
and
promised
her
two
sheep
and
a
cow
to
stop
the
marriage.
The
Witch
enchanted
my
axe,
and
one
day
while
I
was
working,
the
axe
slipped
and
cut
off
my
left
leg.
"At
first,
it
seemed
like
a
big
problem
because
a
one-legged
man
could
not
chop
wood
well.
So
I
went
to
a
tinsmith,
and
he
made
me
a
new
tin
leg.
It
worked
well
after
I
got
used
to
it.
But
the
Wicked
Witch
was
angry
because
she
promised
the
old
woman
I
would
not
marry
the
girl.
When
I
started
chopping
again,
my
axe
slipped
and
cut
off
my
right
leg.
I
went
to
the
tinsmith
again,
and
he
made
me
another
tin
leg.
Then
the
enchanted
axe
cut
off
my
arms,
one
by
one.
But
I
was
not
worried
and
had
them
replaced
with
tin
ones.
The
Witch
then
made
the
axe
slip
and
cut
off
my
head.
I
thought
it
was
the
end
of
me,
but
the
tinsmith
came
along
and
made
me
a
new
tin
head."
"I
thought
I
beat
the
Wicked
Witch
then,
and
I
worked
harder
than
ever.
But
I
did
not
know
how
cruel
she
could
be.
She
made
my
axe
slip
again,
and
it
cut
through
my
body.
The
tinsmith
helped
me
again
and
made
a
body
of
tin.
He
joined
my
tin
arms,
legs,
and
head
to
it,
so
I
could
move.
But,
sadly,
I
had
no
heart
now.
I
lost
my
love
for
the
Munchkin
girl
and
did
not
care
if
I
married
her
or
not.
I
think
she
still
lives
with
the
old
woman,
waiting
for
me.
"My
body
shone
brightly
in
the
sun,
and
I
felt
proud
of
it.
My
axe
could
not
cut
me
now.
There
was
only
one
danger—my
joints
could
rust.
I
kept
an
oil-can
in
my
cottage
and
oiled
myself
when
I
needed
it.
But
one
day,
I
forgot
to
do
this.
I
got
caught
in
a
rainstorm,
and
my
joints
rusted.
I
stood
in
the
woods
until
you
came
to
help
me.
It
was
terrible,
but
I
had
time
to
think.
I
knew
the
greatest
loss
was
my
heart.
When
I
was
in
love,
I
was
the
happiest
man.
No
one
can
love
without
a
heart,
so
I
will
ask
Oz
for
one.
If
he
gives
me
a
heart,
I
will
go
back
to
the
Munchkin
girl
and
marry
her."
Dorothy
and
the
Scarecrow
were
very
interested
in
the
Tin
Woodman's
story.
Now
they
knew
why
he
wanted
a
new
heart.
