El Maravilloso Mago de Oz
Capítulo 9, Página 1
"We
must
be
near
the
yellow
brick
road
now,"
said
the
Scarecrow,
standing
next
to
the
girl.
"We
have
traveled
as
far
as
the
river
took
us."
The
Tin
Woodman
wanted
to
reply,
but
he
heard
a
low
growl.
He
turned
his
head,
which
moved
easily
on
hinges,
and
saw
a
strange
animal
running
toward
them.
It
was
a
big
yellow
Wildcat.
The
Woodman
thought
it
was
chasing
something
because
its
ears
were
flat
against
its
head,
and
its
mouth
was
wide
open,
showing
sharp
teeth.
Its
red
eyes
looked
like
fire.
As
it
came
closer,
the
Tin
Woodman
saw
a
little
gray
field
mouse
running
ahead
of
the
Wildcat.
Even
without
a
heart,
he
knew
it
was
wrong
for
the
Wildcat
to
kill
such
a
pretty,
harmless
creature.
So
the
Woodman
lifted
his
axe,
and
when
the
Wildcat
ran
by,
he
hit
it
quickly.
The
Wildcat's
head
fell
off,
and
its
body
rolled
at
his
feet
in
two
pieces.
The
field
mouse
stopped,
now
free
from
danger.
It
slowly
came
up
to
the
Woodman
and
said
in
a
tiny
voice:
"Oh,
thank
you!
Thank
you
so
much
for
saving
my
life."
"Don't
mention
it,
please,"
replied
the
Woodman.
"I
have
no
heart,
so
I
try
to
help
anyone
who
needs
a
friend,
even
if
it
is
just
a
mouse."
