Lion
answered,
“Because
you
are
the
greatest
of
all
Wizards
and
only
you
can
grant
my
wish.”
The
Ball
of
Fire
burned
even
brighter
for
a
while.
Then
the
voice
said,
“Bring
me
proof
that
the
Wicked
Witch
is
dead,
and
I
will
give
you
courage.
But
as
long
as
the
Witch
lives,
you
must
stay
a
coward.”
The
Lion
felt
angry
at
these
words
but
couldn’t
respond.
As
he
stood
looking
at
the
Ball
of
Fire,
it
got
so
hot
that
he
turned
and
ran
out
of
the
room.
He
was
relieved
to
find
his
friends
waiting
for
him
and
told
them
about
the
scary
meeting
with
the
Wizard.
“What
should
we
do
now?”
asked
Dorothy
sadly.
“There
is
only
one
thing
we
can
do,”
said
the
Lion.
“We
must
go
to
the
land
of
the
Winkies,
find
the
Wicked
Witch,
and
destroy
her.”
“But
what
if
we
can’t?”
asked
the
girl.
