El Maravilloso Mago de Oz
Capítulo 9, Página 1
"We
must
be
close
to
the
yellow
brick
road
now,"
said
the
Scarecrow
as
he
stood
next
to
the
girl.
"We
have
traveled
almost
as
far
as
the
river
took
us."
The
Tin
Woodman
was
about
to
answer
when
he
heard
a
low
growl.
Turning
his
head,
he
saw
a
strange
animal
running
over
the
grass
toward
them.
It
was
a
large
yellow
Wildcat.
The
Woodman
thought
it
must
be
chasing
something
because
its
ears
were
flat
against
its
head
and
its
mouth
was
open,
showing
sharp
teeth.
Its
red
eyes
looked
like
fire.
As
it
got
closer,
the
Tin
Woodman
saw
a
little
gray
field
mouse
running
in
front
of
it.
Even
though
he
had
no
heart,
he
knew
it
was
wrong
for
the
Wildcat
to
kill
such
a
pretty,
harmless
creature.
So
the
Woodman
lifted
his
axe,
and
as
the
Wildcat
ran
by,
he
struck
it
quickly,
cutting
off
its
head.
The
Wildcat
fell
in
two
pieces
at
his
feet.
The
field
mouse,
now
free
from
danger,
stopped
and
slowly
approached
the
Woodman.
It
said
in
a
small,
squeaky
voice:
"Oh,
thank
you!
Thank
you
very
much
for
saving
my
life."
"Don't
mention
it,"
replied
the
Woodman.
"I
have
no
heart,
so
I
always
help
those
who
need
a
friend,
even
if
it's
just
a
mouse."
