IX.
THE
GRASS.
The
grass
has
little
to
do,
—
A
green
world,
With
butterflies
to
watch,
And
bees
to
entertain,
And
move
all
day
to
pretty
tunes
The
winds
bring
along,
And
hold
the
sun
in
its
lap
And
bow
to
all;
And
wear
the
dew
like
pearls,
And
look
so
fine,
—
A
duchess
is
too
plain
For
such
a
sight.
And
even
when
it
dies,
to
pass
With
smells
so
sweet,
Like
spices
gone
to
sleep,
Or
pine
amulets.
And
then
to
live
in
barns,
And
dream
the
days
away,
—
The
grass
has
little
to
do,
I
wish
I
were
the
hay!
