XXV.
THE
MUSHROOM.
The
mushroom
is
a
plant
elf,
Not
there
at
night;
In
the
morning,
it
appears,
In
a
truffled
hut,
so
bright.
It
seems
to
stay
forever,
Yet
its
life
is
brief,
Shorter
than
a
snake's
pause,
Quicker
than
a
thief.
It's
nature's
little
trickster,
A
secret
in
disguise;
It
comes
and
goes
like
bubbles,
Floating
to
the
skies.
I
think
the
grass
is
happy
To
have
it
come
and
go;
A
sneaky
child
of
summer,
Careful
not
to
show.
If
nature
had
a
face
to
hide,
Could
she
reject
a
son?
If
nature
had
a
traitor,
That
mushroom
would
be
one.
