III.
NATURE.
I.
MOTHER
NATURE.
Nature,
the
kindest
mother,
Patient
with
every
child,
The
weakest
or
the
wildest,
—
Her
guidance
always
mild.
In
forest
and
on
hill
By
travelers
is
heard,
Calming
restless
squirrel
Or
an
eager
bird.
How
lovely
her
presence,
A
summer
afternoon,
—
Her
home,
her
gathering;
And
when
the
sun
sets
soon
Her
voice
through
the
aisles
Encourages
soft
prayers
From
the
smallest
cricket,
The
humblest
flower
there.
When
all
her
children
sleep
She
turns
away
awhile
To
light
her
evening
lamps;
Then,
leaning
from
the
sky
With
endless
affection
And
boundless
care,
Her
golden
finger
on
her
lip,
Demands
silence
everywhere.
