IV.
THE
WAKING
YEAR.
A
lady
red
upon
the
hill
Keeps
her
annual
secret;
A
lady
white
within
the
field
In
tranquil
lily
slumbers!
The
neat
breezes
with
their
brooms
Sweep
valley,
hill,
and
tree!
Pray,
my
dear
housekeepers!
Who
might
be
expected?
The
neighbors
do
not
yet
suspect!
The
woods
exchange
a
knowing
smile
—
Orchard,
buttercup,
and
bird
—
In
such
a
short
while!
And
yet
how
still
the
landscape
stands,
How
indifferent
the
wood,
As
if
the
resurrection
Were
nothing
out
of
the
ordinary!
