XXVI.
THE
STORM.
A
wind
came
like
a
bugle
blast;
It
shivered
through
the
grass,
And
a
green
chill
upon
the
warmth
So
ominous
did
pass
We
secured
the
windows
and
the
doors
As
if
from
an
emerald
ghost;
The
storm's
electric
moccasin
That
very
moment
crossed.
On
a
strange
throng
of
panting
trees,
And
fences
fled
away,
And
rivers
where
the
houses
ran
The
living
witnessed
that
day.
The
bell
within
the
steeple
wild
The
flying
news
unfurled.
How
much
can
come
And
much
can
go,
And
yet
the
world
endures!
