Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Engineer's Thumb
Capítulo 9, Página 1
Many
people
asked
my
friend,
Mr.
Sherlock
Holmes,
for
help.
I
told
him
about
two
problems.
One
was
Mr.
Hatherley's
thumb,
and
the
other
was
Colonel
Warburton's
madness.
The
thumb
story
was
very
strange
and
exciting.
It
was
in
the
newspapers,
but
it
is
better
to
hear
it
slowly.
I
remember
it
well,
even
after
two
years.
It
happened
in
the
summer
of
'89,
soon
after
I
got
married.
I
left
Holmes
in
his
Baker
Street
rooms,
but
I
still
visited
him.
My
work
as
a
doctor
was
busy.
I
lived
near
Paddington
Station,
so
I
had
some
patients
from
there.
One
patient
was
very
happy
with
my
help
and
told
others
about
me.
One
morning,
before
seven
o'clock,
my
maid
knocked
on
my
door.
She
said
two
men
from
Paddington
were
waiting
in
my
consulting-room.
I
dressed
quickly
and
went
downstairs.
My
friend,
the
guard,
came
out
of
the
room
and
closed
the
door.
"I
have
him
here,"
he
whispered.
"He
is
all
right."
"What
is
it?"
I
asked.
He
seemed
like
he
had
caught
a
strange
animal.
"It's
a
new
patient,"
he
whispered.
"I
brought
him
myself
so
he
wouldn't
leave.
I
must
go
now,
Doctor.
I
have
my
duties."
He
left
quickly.
I
went
into
the
room
and
saw
a
man
by
the
table.
He
wore
a
suit
and
had
a
cap
on
my
books.
A
handkerchief
with
blood
covered
one
hand.
He
looked
young,
maybe
twenty-five,
and
strong
but
very
pale.
He
seemed
upset.
"Sorry
for
coming
early,
Doctor,"
he
said.
"I
had
a
bad
accident
last
night.
I
took
a
train
this
morning.
A
nice
man
brought
me
here.
I
gave
the
maid
my
card.
It's
on
the
table."
