Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Capítulo 12, Página 14
"I
am
so
happy
you
came,"
she
said.
"You
are
both
very
kind;
I
don't
know
what
to
do.
Your
advice
is
very
important
to
me."
"Please
tell
us
what
happened
to
you."
"I
will,
and
I
must
be
quick.
I
promised
Mr.
Rucastle
to
return
by
three.
He
let
me
come
to
town
this
morning,
but
he
does
not
know
why."
"Tell
us
everything
in
order."
Holmes
stretched
his
legs
towards
the
fire
and
got
ready
to
listen.
"First,
I
must
say
I
have
not
been
badly
treated
by
Mr.
and
Mrs.
Rucastle.
It
is
only
fair
to
say
that.
But
I
do
not
understand
them,
and
I
feel
uneasy
about
them."
"What
do
you
not
understand?"
"Their
reasons
for
their
actions.
But
I
will
tell
you
everything
as
it
happened.
When
I
arrived,
Mr.
Rucastle
met
me
and
drove
me
to
the
Copper
Beeches.
It
is
in
a
nice
place,
but
the
house
is
not
nice.
It
is
a
large
square
building,
whitewashed
but
stained
by
weather.
There
are
grounds
around
it,
woods
on
three
sides,
and
a
field
on
the
fourth
side
that
goes
to
the
Southampton
road,
about
a
hundred
yards
from
the
front
door.
The
front
ground
belongs
to
the
house,
but
the
woods
are
part
of
Lord
Southerton’s
land.
A
group
of
copper
beech
trees
in
front
of
the
hall
door
gives
the
place
its
name."
"My
employer
drove
me
to
his
house.
He
was
very
friendly.
That
evening,
he
introduced
me
to
his
wife
and
child.
Mr.
Holmes,
the
idea
we
had
at
Baker
Street
was
wrong.
Mrs.
Rucastle
is
not
mad.
She
is
a
quiet,
pale
woman,
much
younger
than
her
husband.
She
is
around
thirty,
while
he
is
about
forty-five.
They
have
been
married
for
seven
years.
Mr.
Rucastle
was
a
widower
before,
and
his
daughter
from
his
first
wife
went
to
Philadelphia.
He
told
me
in
private
that
his
daughter
did
not
like
her
stepmother.
She
was
probably
uncomfortable
with
a
young
stepmother."
