Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Capítulo 12, Página 15
"Mrs.
Rucastle
seemed
plain
in
both
looks
and
mind.
She
did
not
impress
me
much.
She
was
devoted
to
her
husband
and
son.
Her
grey
eyes
watched
them,
helping
when
needed.
Mr.
Rucastle
was
kind
to
her
in
a
loud
way,
and
they
seemed
happy.
But
she
had
a
secret
sadness.
She
often
looked
deep
in
thought
with
a
sad
face.
I
saw
her
cry
more
than
once.
I
thought
maybe
her
child’s
behavior
upset
her.
He
was
spoiled
and
mean.
He
was
small
for
his
age
with
a
big
head.
He
had
fits
of
anger
and
sulked
a
lot.
He
liked
to
hurt
small
creatures
for
fun,
catching
mice
and
birds.
But
I
do
not
want
to
talk
about
him,
Mr.
Holmes,
as
he
is
not
important
to
my
story."
"I
like
all
details,"
said
my
friend,
"even
if
they
seem
unimportant."
"I
will
try
not
to
miss
anything
important.
One
unpleasant
thing
was
the
servants.
There
are
only
two,
a
man
and
his
wife.
The
man,
Toller,
is
rough
with
gray
hair
and
a
smell
of
drink.
He
was
drunk
twice,
but
Mr.
Rucastle
did
not
care.
His
wife
is
tall
and
strong
with
a
sour
face.
She
is
as
quiet
as
Mrs.
Rucastle
but
less
nice.
They
are
not
pleasant,
but
I
spend
most
time
in
the
nursery
and
my
room,
which
are
next
to
each
other."
"For
two
days
after
I
arrived,
life
was
quiet.
On
the
third
day,
Mrs.
Rucastle
whispered
something
to
her
husband
after
breakfast."
"'Oh,
yes,'
he
said
to
me,
'we
thank
you,
Miss
Hunter,
for
cutting
your
hair.
It
did
not
change
your
look.
Now,
we
want
to
see
you
in
the
blue
dress.
It
is
on
your
bed.
Please
put
it
on,
and
we
will
be
very
grateful.'"
"The
dress
was
a
strange
blue
color.
It
was
good
material
but
showed
signs
of
being
worn
before.
It
fit
me
perfectly.
Mr.
and
Mrs.
Rucastle
were
very
happy
with
it.
They
waited
for
me
in
the
drawing-room,
a
large
room
with
three
long
windows.
A
chair
was
near
the
central
window,
and
I
was
asked
to
sit
there.
Mr.
Rucastle
walked
around
and
told
funny
stories.
I
laughed
a
lot.
Mrs.
Rucastle
did
not
smile,
looking
sad
and
worried.
After
an
hour,
Mr.
Rucastle
said
it
was
time
to
start
the
day,
and
I
could
change
my
dress
and
go
to
Edward
in
the
nursery."
"Two
days
later,
the
same
thing
happened.
I
changed
my
dress,
sat
by
the
window,
and
laughed
at
Mr.
Rucastle's
stories.
Then
he
gave
me
a
yellow
book
and
asked
me
to
read
aloud.
I
read
for
ten
minutes,
but
suddenly,
he
told
me
to
stop
and
change
my
dress."
"You
can
imagine,
Mr.
Holmes,
how
curious
I
became
about
this
strange
performance.
They
always
turned
my
face
away
from
the
window,
so
I
wanted
to
see
what
was
behind
me.
My
mirror
was
broken,
so
I
hid
a
piece
of
glass
in
my
handkerchief.
Next
time,
I
pretended
to
wipe
my
eyes
and
saw
behind
me.
At
first,
I
saw
nothing,
but
then
I
saw
a
small
man
in
a
grey
suit
on
the
road.
He
was
looking
my
way.
The
road
is
busy,
but
this
man
leaned
on
the
fence
and
looked
up.
I
put
down
my
handkerchief
and
saw
Mrs.
Rucastle
watching
me
closely.
She
said
nothing,
but
I
think
she
knew
I
saw
behind
me.
She
stood
up."
