Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Copper Beeches
Capítulo 12, Página 17
"It
might
seem
disconnected,
and
the
events
may
not
relate.
On
my
first
day
at
Copper
Beeches,
Mr.
Rucastle
took
me
to
a
small
building
near
the
kitchen.
As
we
got
closer,
I
heard
a
chain
rattling
and
a
big
animal
moving
inside."
"Look
in
here!"
said
Mr.
Rucastle,
showing
me
a
gap
between
two
planks.
"Isn't
he
a
beauty?"
"I
looked
through
and
saw
two
glowing
eyes
and
a
vague
shape
in
the
dark."
"Don't
be
scared,"
said
my
boss,
laughing
at
my
jump.
"It's
only
Carlo,
my
mastiff.
I
call
him
mine,
but
really
old
Toller,
my
groom,
is
the
only
one
who
can
handle
him.
We
feed
him
once
a
day,
not
too
much,
so
he
is
always
eager.
Toller
lets
him
loose
every
night,
and
God
help
anyone
he
catches.
Never
step
outside
at
night,
for
it's
very
dangerous."
"The
warning
was
serious,
for
two
nights
later
I
looked
out
of
my
bedroom
window
at
two
in
the
morning.
It
was
a
beautiful
moonlit
night,
and
the
lawn
was
almost
as
bright
as
day.
I
stood
there,
enjoying
the
scene,
when
I
noticed
something
moving
under
the
trees.
As
it
came
into
the
moonlight,
I
saw
it
was
a
giant
dog,
as
big
as
a
calf,
with
a
hanging
jowl,
black
muzzle,
and
huge
bones.
It
walked
slowly
across
the
lawn
and
disappeared
into
the
shadows.
That
scary
guard
made
my
heart
race
more
than
any
burglar
could."
"Now
I
have
a
strange
story
to
tell
you.
I
had
cut
off
my
hair
in
London
and
put
it
at
the
bottom
of
my
trunk.
One
evening,
after
the
child
was
in
bed,
I
looked
at
the
furniture
in
my
room
and
moved
my
things
around.
There
was
an
old
chest
of
drawers,
the
top
two
were
open
and
empty,
but
the
bottom
one
was
locked.
I
filled
the
first
two
with
my
clothes,
and
I
was
annoyed
not
to
use
the
third
drawer.
I
thought
it
might
be
locked
by
mistake,
so
I
tried
my
keys.
The
first
key
fit
perfectly,
and
I
opened
the
drawer.
There
was
only
one
thing
inside,
and
you
would
never
guess
what
it
was.
It
was
my
coil
of
hair."
"I
picked
it
up
and
looked
at
it.
It
was
the
same
color
and
thickness.
But
how
could
my
hair
be
in
the
drawer?
With
shaking
hands,
I
opened
my
trunk
and
took
out
my
own
hair.
I
put
the
two
together,
and
they
were
the
same.
Wasn't
it
strange?
No
matter
how
much
I
thought,
I
couldn't
understand
it.
I
put
the
strange
hair
back
in
the
drawer
and
said
nothing
to
the
Rucastles
because
I
felt
guilty
for
opening
their
locked
drawer."
"I
am
observant,
as
you
might
have
noticed,
Mr.
Holmes,
and
soon
I
knew
the
house
well.
But
there
was
one
wing
that
seemed
empty.
A
door
near
the
Tollers'
rooms
led
there,
but
it
was
always
locked.
One
day,
I
saw
Mr.
Rucastle
coming
out
with
keys
in
his
hand,
looking
different
from
his
usual
happy
self.
His
face
was
red,
and
he
looked
angry.
He
locked
the
door
and
walked
past
me
without
a
word."
