Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Man with the Twisted Lip
Capítulo 6, Página 2
"It's
nice
you
came.
Have
some
wine
and
water,
and
sit
down.
Tell
us
everything.
Or
should
James
go
to
bed?"
"No,
no!
I
need
the
doctor's
help,
too.
It's
about
Isa.
He
hasn't
been
home
for
two
days.
I'm
so
worried!"
This
wasn't
the
first
time
she
talked
to
us
about
her
husband's
problem.
We
tried
to
comfort
her.
Did
she
know
where
Isa
was?
Could
we
bring
him
back?
She
said
she
knew
where
he
was.
He
often
went
to
an
opium
den
in
the
east
of
the
City.
Usually,
he
stayed
only
one
day,
but
now
he
had
been
there
for
two
days.
She
was
sure
he
was
at
the
Bar
of
Gold
in
Upper
Swandam
Lane.
But
how
could
she
go
there
and
get
him
out?
There
was
only
one
way
to
help.
I
could
go
with
her,
but
then
I
thought,
why
should
she
come?
I
was
Isa
Whitney's
doctor,
so
I
could
help
him
better
alone.
I
promised
to
send
him
home
in
a
cab
in
two
hours
if
he
was
there.
So,
I
left
my
cozy
home
and
went
east
in
a
cab
on
a
strange
mission.
The
first
part
of
my
task
was
easy.
Upper
Swandam
Lane
is
a
bad
alley
behind
the
wharves
near
London
Bridge.
I
found
the
place
between
a
clothing
shop
and
a
gin
shop.
I
told
my
cab
to
wait
and
went
down
the
steps.
Inside,
it
was
dark
and
full
of
opium
smoke,
with
wooden
beds
like
on
a
ship.
In
the
dim
light,
I
saw
people
lying
in
strange
positions.
Some
talked
quietly
to
themselves
or
to
each
other,
but
most
were
silent.
At
the
end
of
the
room,
there
was
a
small
fire,
and
a
tall,
thin
old
man
sat
there,
looking
into
the
flames.
A
Malay
attendant
came
up
with
a
pipe
and
some
opium
for
me,
showing
me
to
an
empty
bed.
