Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Man with the Twisted Lip
Capítulo 6, Página 25
"He!
he!
You
are
funny,"
chuckled
the
inspector.
"Now,
if
you
open
the
door
quietly,
we
will
make
him
look
better."
"Well,
why
not,"
said
the
inspector.
"He
doesn’t
look
good
for
the
Bow
Street
cells,
does
he?"
He
put
his
key
in
the
lock,
and
we
all
quietly
entered
the
cell.
The
sleeper
turned
a
little
and
then
went
back
to
deep
sleep.
Holmes
went
to
the
water-jug,
wet
his
sponge,
and
rubbed
it
hard
on
the
prisoner’s
face.
"Let
me
introduce
you,"
he
shouted,
"to
Mr.
Neville
St.
Clair,
of
Lee,
in
Kent."
I
had
never
seen
such
a
sight.
The
man’s
face
came
off
like
tree
bark
under
the
sponge.
The
brown
color
was
gone!
The
scar
and
twisted
lip
that
made
his
face
ugly
were
gone
too!
A
pull
took
away
the
tangled
red
hair,
and
there
sat
a
pale,
sad-looking
man
with
black
hair
and
smooth
skin.
He
rubbed
his
eyes
and
looked
around,
confused.
Then,
suddenly
realizing
he
was
exposed,
he
screamed
and
turned
his
face
to
the
pillow.
"Great
heavens!"
cried
the
inspector,
"it
is
the
missing
man.
I
know
him
from
the
photo."
The
prisoner
turned
with
a
careless
look
like
someone
who
accepts
his
fate.
"So
be
it,"
he
said.
"And
what
am
I
charged
with?"
"With
making
away
with
Mr.
Neville
St.—
Oh,
you
can’t
be
charged
with
that
unless
it’s
called
attempted
suicide,"
said
the
inspector
with
a
grin.
"I’ve
been
twenty-seven
years
in
the
force,
but
this
is
something
new."
