Las aventuras de Sherlock Holmes
The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor
Capítulo 10, Página 27
“I
saw
it
in
the
paper,”
explained
the
American.
“It
gave
the
name
and
church
but
not
where
she
lived.”
“We
discussed
what
to
do.
Frank
wanted
to
be
open,
but
I
was
so
ashamed
I
wanted
to
disappear,
maybe
just
send
a
note
to
my
father.
It
was
awful
thinking
of
all
those
people
waiting
for
me
at
the
breakfast
table.
So
Frank
took
my
wedding
clothes
and
made
a
bundle,
so
I
couldn’t
be
traced,
and
hid
them.
We
planned
to
go
to
Paris
tomorrow,
but
Mr.
Holmes
came
to
us
tonight.
He
showed
us
kindly
that
I
was
wrong
and
Frank
was
right,
and
we’d
be
wrong
to
stay
secret.
He
offered
us
a
chance
to
talk
to
Lord
St.
Simon
alone,
so
we
came
here.
Now,
Robert,
you’ve
heard
everything.
I’m
sorry
if
I
caused
you
pain,
and
I
hope
you
don’t
think
badly
of
me.”
Lord
St.
Simon
didn’t
change
his
stiff
stance,
listening
with
a
frown
and
tight
lips
to
the
long
story.
“Excuse
me,”
he
said,
“but
I
don’t
usually
discuss
personal
matters
in
public.”
“So
you
won’t
forgive
me?
Won’t
you
shake
hands
before
I
leave?”
“Oh,
certainly,
if
it
pleases
you.”
He
extended
his
hand
and
shook
hers
coldly.
“I
hoped,”
suggested
Holmes,
“you’d
join
us
for
a
friendly
supper.”
“I
think
that’s
asking
too
much,”
replied
Lord
St.
Simon.
“I
may
have
to
accept
these
changes,
but
I
can’t
celebrate
them.
With
your
permission,
I’ll
say
good-night.”
He
bowed
to
us
all
and
left
the
room.
